Ekadashi comes on every 11th tithi in Hindu Calendar. Two Ekadashi occur in one month according to positions of the moon, One during Shukla (bright) Paksha and another during Krishna (dark) Paksha.

The day of Ekadashi, people take an ideally waterless fast from sunrise on the Ekadashi day to sunrise on the next day. Hindu scriptures teach to keep avoid all beans and all grains on this day because these two foods are tainted by sin, one should eat only fruits and vegetables and milk products on this day.

Parana means breaking the fast. Ekadashi Parana is done after sunrise on the next day of Ekadashi fast. It is necessary to do Parana within Dwadashi Tithi either Dwadashi is over or at once after sunrise. Not doing Parana within Dwadashi is similar to an offence.
